σ\sigma-field generated by 𝒞\mathcal{C}

Let 𝒞\mathcal{C} be a collection of subsets of Ω\Omega; the σ\sigma-field generated by 𝒞\mathcal{C} (called σ(𝒞)\sigma(\mathcal{C})) is a σ\sigma-field satisfying

  1. σ(𝒞)𝒞\sigma(\mathcal{C}) \supset \mathcal{C}
  2. if \mathcal{B} is a σ\sigma-field containing 𝒞\mathcal{C} then σ(𝒞)\mathcal{B} \supset \sigma(\mathcal{C})
